too early for winter setup in NJ??
I just bought a winter setup and i was wondering if its too early to put on. The weather in NJ is anywhere from 45-55 degrees during the day and 33-45 during the night. My current tires are a little low and I figured i would just put the winter setup on, but i dont wanna ruin the tires. Any help is much appreciated!!

winter tires shouldn't be driven in weather above 50 degrees.. if you have all season tires, i would suggest using them until you actually get some snow, or until it is consistently < 50 degrees....
if you have a summer setup, i'd say put them on soon since the colder weather isn't good for your tires, and also you might run the risk of running them on a cold wet night, also not good for summer tires

You def should give it a couple more week, they're still predicting about 60 degree temperature next week.

Look at your local almanac to see a historically date that the temperature stays consistantly in the 40s or lower. For my state/city it is typically closer to Thanksgiving, so that is when I am planning on putting on my winter tires.

I would wait if you can, but it wouldn't be crazy to install them now if you need to.

after looking at my stock tires they are really low. How much tread would i really be risking by putting them on 2-3 week early

if you are gonna freak out over a couple weeks and maybe 1000 miles of driving, then just put them on...

i ended up putting them on because after looking at the stock tires i noticed they were dry rotted and at the wear bars.

What kind of winter setup do you have? do you have any pics of what they look like on your car?

i actually got an insane deal on my setup through craigslist. The guy selling them was in the air-force stationed in germany and bought the setup there. I got 16x7 Rial wheels with fulda kristall supremo tires both which are made in germany for $200 including a full set of BMW lugnuts. The tires have about 80%+ tread left. I like these wheels better than my stock 16's for the winter. The tires feel great and are extremely quiet!! I will post pics soon.

Nice setup.
I can't wait to put my winter wheels / tires on. I actually like those (looks wise) better than my summer setup.

I just bought some BBS rims a few month ago, and want to wait as long as possible to enjoy them. I have 17" BMW steelies for winter. They actually look pretty cool with the car lowered. I'll Probably wait until the beginning of December to put those on.
