Well some people are full of it too. But remember this is the E-46 forum and last I knew they have been out of production for a few years so some people might have gotten a deal on a used one. If you think you have to pay 44K for a BMW I'll sell you mine.

I paid cash for mine but had a limited budget found an 02 in my price range at that price I could hardly find an 02 civic. Mine runs great and is excellent shape so I thought hey why not. (I also know the best local independent mechanic in these parts.)

Why cash well If I extended myself and got a car with credit when things go bad I will be out of transportation and work.

I paid for both of mine cash, it feels good when people ask me if my parents paid for my cars or if my payments are really high each month, then when I tell them I paid both in cash myself they're like and I'm like

Paid cash for mine as well.

Seller's eyes went "boiiiing" and his mouth started drooling when I went to the car and brought out a 2" stack of $100 bills in an effort to knock him off another thousand on the asking price. lol. Needless to say, he obliged right away.

Cash is king when you are buying a car. And if you're buying from private seller, often times they don't mind writing the sale price as lower on the title to save you tax money (I do not endorse or do this).

OT: if your credit is not that great DON'T use a car loan to bring it up. You'll get reamed on the financing.

The best thing you can do is go to a credit union and open up an account. After a little bit take out a small personal loan from them and make sure you pay it back properly. After a year or so of good loan payments you can probably boost your credit enough to have a fighting chance at a good car loan.
