What DSLR did you use for that second video?

It looks like a Canon lens. 5D MK2?

You're right, but I prefer the smaller bike. My buddy just picked up an 1198s about a week ago, which is why I'm hot on the prowl of my own Duc now. Fvcker beat me to it!!!!!!

That 1098 sounds mean in the vids that you posted. You should hear my buddies 1198s while riding through Ortega Canyon.

I like the Dark version too. I've actually been offered $13,200 (..freight, shipping, assembly fees, etc. waived) for a red or white 848, so the difference in price between that and the Dark version is few hundred dollars. I'm going to check out a red one this afternoon.

Does the 848 NOT have a slipper clutch? I figured that since it has a WC, Ducati would have included a slipper function. I love the slipper clutch on the GSXR.

So niceeeeeeeeeeee!

oh, my bad guys, i didnt mean slipper clutch, but a DRY CLUTCH.
i think the 848 has a slipper, but dont quote me on it.

i know the zx6, zx10, 1000rr, r1, and the 1198 all come with real slipper clutches, not "slipper-like" clutches.
my slipper clutch is my left hand. works great.

I rode a 999s yesterday, and it has quite a different feel from the GSXR's that I come from. They didn't have an 848 demo, but I'm negotiating on their last 2009. They are willing to give me the bike for $14,414 OTD (..$12,995 for the bike, no freight/shipping fees, etc.). My buddy told me that he knows somebody who can do better......$13,700 OTD. We shall see!

All bike manufacturers are hurting right now, including Ducati. Ducati NA is swimming in bikes, you can get a good deal.

Did you also consider slightly used Ducatis? You can pick up a nice low mileage 1098, many with Termi pipes for $12,000 or less. You can pick up a used 999 with low miles in the $8,000 range or less.

You can get 748s, 749s, and older 916/996 is the $5,000 - $7,000 range all day long.

I'd buy a slightly used 848, but I'm not considering anything bigger (..i.e..1098, 1198, etc.). The 848 is MORE than enough for what I need. The 848/1098/1198 styling is what appeals to me, so I'm not interested much in the older 7xx or 9xx line.

The 848 and 1098/1198 are all physically the same size, using the same bodywork.

So I'm assuming you are purely talking about the engine size, which is substantial but not overkill.

The difference between the 1098 and 848 isn't that great, and if you have the skill to handle the 848 V-Twin or 600 I4, you can handle the 1098.

Also, your depreciation will be far less with the used bike. A two year old 1098 with 5,000 miles has already hit the large part of it's depreciation, especially when you consider many have expensive mods like Termi pipes.

While a new 848 will lose you thousands in the next couple of years.
