P0014 and P0015 Codes
2003 325 xiT with 62,000 miles:
The SES light came on tonight. I borrowed a code reader from autozone and pulled the following codes: P0014 and P0015. They seem to point to cam timing. My first thought was cam sensor but I don't want to throw parts at it. The codes seem to conflict with eachother because the 0014 reads timing over advanced and 0015 is timing over retarded. Also, it is idling about 100 to 200 RPM above normal. Has anyone else seen this before? Thanks, Mark |

its the sensors. had the codes pop up in my car. bank 1 is intake side and bank 2 is exhaust. good luck.
edit: get oem sensors. from what i've read, the aftermarket ones last one day or 3 months. in other words, they suck

We installed a vanos seal kit to resolve his issue. He brought the car to us.

Sorry to bring up an old thread but i got this about a month ago... i still drove the car around...
Keeping in mind that from about a year ago..i've had 2 experiences where the car would not start (it would turn all fine just not start...and i kept holding the key it and somehow it turned on).. There has also been instances where the car would start but had really rough idle or died (its happened but ... also not often) <--- this seems like vanos seal problem Today however, my car won't start with anything i tried, even tried jump starting it for fun. I read from the computer those 2 codes... I highly doubt my car wont turn on because of vanos... Is it high probably in my case it is the Intake camshaft sensor?

P0015: Camshaft Position, Act B - bank 1, timing over retard
P0014: Camshaft Position, Act B - bank 1, timing over advanc. If it's a sensor, it's gonna be a EXHAUST one and not the intake. "Bank 1" in the code does not mean "intake", it means Cyl 1-3, Actuator means VANOS, "A" means intake, "B" means exhaust. So, the problem is on the exhaust side. If it's a sensor it's the camshaft exhaust sensor. This is per Rajaie. I initially thought it would be intake sensor myself. My car ran ok with these 2 codes, not perfect but ok. The fact that yours does not start at all baffles me. The codes went immediately away after I replaced the seals. See my P0014 and P0015 write-up here (esp. posts #6 and # 8): http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...ighlight=p0014 |

Thanks for that
![]() I just really don't see the car not starting due to the seals...it has to be the sensor! But after that I'm getting the seals! So i guess i will order the exhaust one

http://germanparts.ca/catalog.html Do you guys think its ok, they are reputable here. However the part is not OEM, but they are aftermarket german quality sensors..?

Also before you spend money on the sensor you might wanna check with a mechanic or other knowledgeble members here if it's at all possible for the car not to start because of the sensor. My understanding was that the bad sensor would cause rough idle or something along those lines... Sometimes it's a coincidence. It could be that the codes have nothing to do with the fact that the car does not start. I'd look into the fuel pump in this situation. It's like in my bimmerfest thread that I gave you a link to a guy was thinking that his rough idle was caused by these two codes and it came out that his spark plugs were the culprit of that... When you put the key in ignition two position you shoud hear the hissing sound of the fuel pump building pressure for a couple of seconds. If it's not happening look into further fuel pump diagnostics. Good luck! Edit: buy ONLY genuine bmw sensor. Tisher would be the best vendor for that from my point of view :-) |

Ok thanks, I think these guys are fine.
I'm buying both sensors... Bmw quoted 216$ CDN for each sensor! F THAT These are 70$ each... and ill get o-rings too. Just going to replace both i guess. I hear hissing perfectly fine, it should not be the fuel pump

I'm not certain what Camshaft B Positiion is, but it can't be both advanced and retarded at the same time unless the sensor that is making the report is having it's own issues. |

Ah i give up.
I put in the exhaust one (mind you the tip is a bit thicker on this after market sensor) But it fit fine... I couldn't get to the intake one because of the 32mm that i didn't have. Car did not start. So next would be the intake one, but i think i'm just going to tow the car. edit: i just did intake one too, car still won't start lol Going to get the mechanic to bring me computer to reset ECU? See if that will do anything/bring up same code?
