The cop got a slap on the wrist... Lawsuit was dismissed...

The mother of the boy filed a suit against Rivieri in April 2008, two months after the video was widely circulated, seeking $6 million for assault, battery and violation of rights. The city sought to have the suit dismissed, because, among other things, such claims must be filed within 180 days of the incident; but the family's attorney argued that the statute of limitations did not apply to a minor. On December 11, 2008, Baltimore Circuit Judge Marcus Z. Shar ruled that a lawsuit brought by the family of the skateboarder could proceed despite being filed 10 months after the July 2007 incident.[4]

On September 22, 2009, the Baltimore Sun reported that the Rivieri had been granted by Circuit Judge Evelyn Cannon, a "motion for summary judgment to dismiss" on September 14, 2009. William P. Blackford, the attorney for the Bush family had this statement: "The family is incredibly disappointed, and feels wronged," ... "They've had their day in court taken away." Baltimore City police revealed that in early 2009, Rivieri received death threats after the YouTube video surfaced and has cited that as a reason to implement a new policy of not disclosing names of police officers who either shoot or kill citizens. The article also has an update on Rivieri himself and the investigation. Anthony Guglielmi, the chief spokesperson for the Baltimore City Police Department told the Baltimore Sun that the complaint filed against Rivieri, based upon a "discourtesy complaint" has been referred to a internal charging committee for discipline. His police powers were reinstated as of November 2008 and while has been removed from the Inner Harbor patrol, he has been assigned to Southeast District patrol ever since.[5]

While the lawsuit has been dismissed, the Baltimore Police Department's internal investigation has sustained administrative charges against Rivieri for using excessive and unnecessary force and "discourtesy." The consequences of these charges have not yet been decided by the department, but could include anything from a reprimand to complete termination.

Absolute joke and disgrace to that kid, his rights and the police department. That was ASSAULT plain and simple by that officer. He should be fired and jailed for his actions.

lol, There is no law that states you must address an officer by any title. There are laws that protect citizens from abuse, official oppression and assault though.... Well, they are supposed to at least.

The police officer should have the right to smack the kid upside the the head, and break the skateboard in half. lol, violation of the CHILD'S rights, rights should be earned, not handed out at birth...

And to all of those who are bashing the cop, what would you do if this youth was smack talking you and disobeying you?
absolutely juvenile and quite embarassing.. did you actually read this before you posted it? condoning physical violence towards children, you sir are abominable

Just so I get it clear.

So the cop got off all civil charges free, no worries for him at all except maybe some internal penalty from his own work department?

And the family gets zero compensation for their time/resource/energy exhausted on this case? I don't understand, what's the reason for dismissal anyways?

kid was disrespectful...completely. Should have not called the officer "dude" or "guy" and simply been able to live up to the guy as he would to his teacher/parents...which he had brought up.

The only negative thing that cop did was slap him on the floor. Otherwise that kid got exactly what he deserved

What people don't get is 9 times out of 10 if they ask nicely, civilian or cop, to leave the premises, we would. It's when they start b!tching and yelling that we start fvcking around with them. The kid is 14. Just going from that video, it doesn't look like he did anything wrong. Being 'rude' is not breaking the law. Throwing a kid down on the ground and making threats might raise some issues.

A few bad experiences involved a janitor trying to run us over in his truck. We know because he was going so fast he couldn't even brake in time and hit the gate. He got out, chased is with a broom while my friend snuck into his car and took the keys. I wonder what the school did to him.

Another time cop told us to get off our boards outside the mall. We were just riding, not grinding sh!t and 'destroying' property. I told him no, because there was clearly no sign that prohibited skating. He gets out of his kart and starts chasing me. Once we lose him, we get back on, only to find that he's been circling the entire mall looking for us. See's us again and chases us on foot again. Guess what happened to his keys when he left his kart .

Kid's fault for talking back I guess. Also his fault for not just running. I doubt that fat ass or his golf kart can catch those kids.

Cop's fault for excessive force. Still, there are many skaters who just won't take sh!t from cops.

Cop got mad that someone "disrespected" him.

Cop is wrong and should be fired.
