I just saw it at random one day in a posting talking about the consideration of building one again.

It would be kinda cool to see BMW do another super car

enough M's.... they've got the M, M3, M5, M6... does there really need to be any more sub-divisions? they Could just focus on all the complaints they've been receiving post-e46, instead of working on brand new line ups.

I'm with the haters. I hate the 1 series, and the M division is a joke now. They were a joke as soon as they released the M6. The M SUVs just further the embarrassment. I don't care how well the 1 series drives, it still looks like a "cutesy" car to me, and only a major redesign could save it's looks. I'm sure it drives great, but it's ugly as hell, ugly inside too.

Not liking BMW lately at all.

I completely agree with all of your comments. I understand (and know first hand) that BMW is severely struggling from a financial standpoint. If it wasn't for the mini BMW would have been a lot a worse lot off. Now they are looking to increase their profit line. But at the same time, by doing so they taking cars that were initially intended to be a somewhat exclusive club (and yes by design) and making it so that any Joe on the street could have one. In my opinion BMW's name and reputation will go down the drain. The new ///M line will become more like a civic with younger and inevitably stupider kids owning them. It's sad.........

The only saving grace will be the expensive maintenance. Once the kids realize how expensive the upkeep is, you won't see anyone other than die-hards keeping these things beyond the warranty period.

The New M1 will never be >

Frank Fahey's M1 is . Amazing feel to sit in and such a mean sounding car. How can they compare the new 1 series "M" to this?

Wait, I fail to see what is wrong with this. Isn't it just a natural progression? BMW is building powerful entry-level luxury vehicles and this is a bad thing?

Please call it 1 series M, not M1. That would be blasphemy.

Drove a 135i, not half as "spicy" as I was expecting it to. Drove the M5 and the M3 that day too, and the E90 M3 is WAY funner to drive, and faster, no matter what people say (or that 135i was beaten, but I doubt that). My supercharged 330ci is wayyyyy more fun to drive then the 135i, something that could change when the 135i is equally modified of course.
What cannot change is how ugly and most of all, how small that car is for a tall person such as myself.

But oh well, I´d take an E46 M3 all the way over either the new M3 or this soon to come, M-something (hopefully not M1). High revving straight-6, with a touch of a supercharger... perfect!

About the reason given about making the M-line affordable... are they making a 4-pot 200hp Ferrari just so I can buy one and have a Ferrari? No, they´re not... AMG´s are dime a dozen, Audi´s S models are even worse, and now we´re getting there with the M-line, the only thing that makes me feel good is that they are all still amazing vehicles.

and yeah the m1 title should have definitely been saved for a more super car-ish thing, perhaps they'll make the m8 that super car?
the m8 would have to compete with cars like the ferrari 599 or 612, aston martin vanquish or v12 vantage (yes they made the v8 into a v12). you would still need a true m1 that is based off the original to compete with the audi r8 5.2 or ferrari 430 (soon to be 458).

M cars used to be about incredible balance and poise around a track, not nose-heavy 4400lb ugly pigs like the M6. There's no balance there, no 50/50 weight distribution there. It's more of an agile grand tourer. And that to me doesn't represent what //M used to.
