what about the XD9? my buddy has the XD40 i think, it felt good in my paws, i bit big, but i hear the reviews are great? whats your take?

I didn't have my M when I lived there, I had my S2000 then bought an 06 G35, then about a month before I left I bought an 00 MRS (Long story)..anyways, some how I manged to put 5000 miles on the G35 in 6months and I only lived about 3-4 miles from base for half of that time (I lived in tripler) then I moved to Aiea with my at the time G/F. I wish I would have taken better advantage of my time there. There are times I really miss it (like now) but I like to actually be able to drive on road trips and see different things....and how much cheaper everything is

My rule is this.
If the product is made in a country that does not have comparable labor and environmental laws as the US, I do everything in my power not to buy it (some things, like laptops, you have no choice).
If the product is made in a country that does have comparable labor and environmental laws as the US, I only buy it if it is better than the American product. In ties, I favor the American product.

My engine was assembled in FL for whatever that's worth.

Believe it or not, never handled an XD. I haven't heard anything bad about them. The sights aren't always perfectly zeroed, but then the only gun I've ever seen with fixed sights that were properly zeroed is my HK (this includes Sigs). It's easy enough to zero it though, a gunsmith can do it for not much money (you can do it too, I'm just too afraid of marring the finish to do it myself).

Well, a range-dedicated gun is very different from a carry gun to me. For carry size is a real issue. For instance, the 32oz XD45 will weigh on you a lot more than the 27.5oz XD(m) at the end of the day. It might sound like nothing, but it's not. Or a gun that's 7.5" long overall will be uncomfortable getting in and out of the car for instance. For a range-dedicated gun it's nice to have weight, especially up front, and while a 3lb trigger is great at the range, I'd want a little more resistance in my carry gun.

yes, thats me. range, carry, and fend off big bad guys.

but for carry, im not the walk around with a gat type of guy, im more the leave it in a safe place within good reach/access and thats it... i guess if i wanted 24/7 carry id be looking at a sub comp.

why is the trigger pull an issue for carry? dont most holsters cover the trigger?

Safe place? so I guess you don't plan on carrying beyond the car?

CZ makes good guns too. They need a bit of breaking in, but that's no problem.
