just the aux, I don't have a need for the usb.
I got the trunk cable. I'm thinking about making a surface connection under the center console arm rest. I'll post up the install! thanks again for the help!! *edit here's the mini usb car charger I bought a long time ago off ebay for like $3: Last edited by jbrewer; 01-30-2010 at 08:42 PM. |

I'll have the grom unit today!
can't wait until I get home to try it out. I receive my 20ft 3.5mm extension cable yesterday. I may make an installation video since I have my mom's HD camcorder. |

15 feet would be plenty but sounds like you're all set. Good luck!

I know 20ft was a little overboard, but the cable is great quality!
We'll see how it all goes!! I may stop by radio shack to buy a 3.5mm surface mount, but I think I'm going to save that for when it gets warmer out (I live in ohio). |

I used surface/panel mounts for both my 3.5mm audio and USB port. Got them cheap from www.frontx.com

you have a pic of your install?
I think I'll just drill right beside the seat heater button and install this type of mount: |

Here's my DIY custom mounted 3.5mm and USB ports. The USB stick fits in with the lid closed. Nice stealthy install. I've seen people do the button panel ones and they look good too.

I may do a flush mount in the ashtray for the 3.5mm port now that I see how you did it! so the GROM USB... can you actually use the stock cd player's controls to flip to another song?? |

Hey I know im crazy late on this but I wanted to get the kit as well and after talking to the guy in parts he told me that they have to program your radio in order for it to read that you have a AUX cable and thats for all radios no matter what software version u have.

TheSho007 - your parts guy is incorrect. I've installed the OEM Aux input on several cars never once have we needed to "program" the head unit.

So being that I have SW40 and a 2002, that means im SOL on the aux cable even tho I have the mode button? Is the grom the best bet then? Or is something like the dice worth the extra money? (I would be using a 3rd gen Ipod touch 64 gig)

Hm, I'll have to look into that. No ones found out if there is a way to re-flash/update the soft wear on the radio?

The software isn't really update able on the radio, but if it was you would most likely run into hardware limitations.

2001 BMW 325i Aux?
I'm super new to cars in general so try to tone down the mechanics language. Haha. So here's what's up. I'm wanting to make an aux modification to my 3-Series 2001 BMW, but it seems much more complicated due to it being pre-2003. I do not have a mode button, it goes: Scan-CD (with arrow keys underneath). What can I do to get myself hooked up with an aux cable? Please try to include links if you say: "You need this special BMW-aux converter." Thanks! Much appreciated.
(I think I included a picture of my radio, maybe not... I tried?) |
