Umnitza angel eyes wiring...

Hi there
i have angel eyes already installed that replace the DRLs and i'm really happy with the way it works... however, now i want them to turn on when i lock the car and fade out exactly the same as the way the interior lights fade...

i found the kit to do this, and the instructions:
http://www.fastm.com/m3/angeleyes_chromium.html

however, this involves:
1. replacing the current angel eyes
2. leaving the DRLs disconnected so the annoying warning light stays on as i don't want to reconnect them (ruins the effectiveness of the AE i think...)

so i was wondering if i could just buy the wiring harness:
http://www.fastm.com/m3/angeleyes/angeleyes04.jpg

and connect it up to the current transformers?? im not sure if it will work as the voltages might be different or something....

and i was also wondering if there's a way to 'trick' the car into thinking the DRLs r connected and working, even though they aren't?? i just like having my instrument cluster with no warning lights

I thought you just had to connect the secondary trigger wire to the interior light circuit (?)

that's what i did

brown trigger wire (on the pic that you provided) connects to your interior lighting and that does the trick.

Here is how you do it

As for the second question... i had mine turned off by a mechanic... Not sure if it is legal in UK but if it is - you can get your dealer to turn it off too...

hmmm okay....

but i was just thinking, i think not having DRLs is actually illegal, so is there a way for me to wire it in so instead of having it linked to the accessories wire (as the primary trigger), link it up to the DRLs so the AEs become my DRLs (that's legal here)??

Not having DRLs is also illegal in Canada. According to a cop that i talked to - cops don't know what kind of DRLs most of cars are supposed to run... as long as you have something lit up front - they are happy. so just running AE's as your DRLs is not technically illegal... But dealers for the most part wont turn off your stock DRLs for you. Find an independent mechanic that has tools and skills to do it... that's what everybody does in Canada...

I am no expert but i don't see why not... it all depends on what AEs you bought, what kind of ballasts they have, etc....

ok so i tried using the wiring harness on non-umnitza AEs rings and inverters... and it flopped :\
basically, the voltage coming through the wiring harness is 12V and the voltage coming from the DRL connections is 12V so i thought it would work :S however, when connecting the inverters up to the wiring harness, the voltage coming through changes to 3V :S
so now, i'm going to find inverters that umnitza do, connect them up to the non-umnitza AEs rings and see if it works otherwise, i'll buy the rings too....

does anybody know where to get umnitza inverters/ballasts??

(basically these: http://www.fastm.com/m3/angeleyes/angeleyes03.jpg)

thannkkksss

The wiring harness is universal and will work on any angel eye setup, regardless if they're CCFL or LED

i don't think so :S
the voltage across the harness connection to the ballast drops from 12V to 3V when the ballasts are connected... i think there's a difference in resistance... ill try once more i think, just in case you're right...

sorry to sidetrack a little here..

but why would not having DRL's be illegal? i know some fairly new cars that don't come with them.

the same cars in the US that don't have them, are modified to have them in other countries?
