hey i just put ebay headers in and i think i might have done something wrong...i put them in and when i drove around for the first 10 min it was amazing.....it was the perfect sound....not too much rasp....i loved it...but 30 into driving i hear this loud grumble and now it sounds like a go cart on steroids...i think i was supposed to retighten the bolts or something and now my car sounds like sh!t...
either i have an exhaust leak at the header-exhaust connection or i have a manifold exahust leak or i have broken header.....please help!

Rasp = win. I want my car to sound like it's going to rip your head off.
I just ordered some ebay headers and I'm gonna run straight pipes all the way back, ending in stock tips, maybe even go for quads? No emissions in my part of Va OP, I'd like to hear a driveby sound/vid clip. Free revving isn't the same.

^ I had it straight pipes sounds like sh*T
I would get some Aero Turbine 2" Res. That will take care of the Rasp! -TrippinBimmer

xixixi....any sound clips? I've got a muffler to tone it down if I don't like the sound. I'm going to see what it does with the res and stock muffler, then remove parts, starting with the res, to get it where I want it. It's not like I'm going to slap 3" pipes all the way back. I'm actually thinking conservatively with regards to pipe size.

Did you ever retighten while hot? I'm still suspect of a leak.

are you still running cats or did you just move the 02 down the pipe near the first resonator

Finally, for the first time since I installed my headers like 3 years ago, I have ZERO rasp:

+1 down stream cats flow very well. The 3 series header bottle neck is where the 3 merge to one-also the oem cats are a bit restrictive, but the design of the pipes is the big issue. Also, OP seems :screwy: in being surprised that high performance exhaust parts make more sound at full throttle. That's pretty much the point of installing headers in the first place. Less restriction means smoother faster flow of exhaust out of the pipes and also to your ears.
But to add my opinion, have some high flow cats installed, properly hook up post cat 02 sensors and go from there. It may tone down some of your noise.

The point of getting headers is to get rid of the cats.
I've gotten rid of the rasp without adding cats.
