I don't know a 5000lb. SUV with the 3 liter BMW engine seems like it would be pretty anemic. I'd probably go with something Japanese, I really liked the Nissan Murano rental I had.

I'm not an X5 fan (just seems dated and overpriced to me) and, while I never owned a Japanese car before, I purchased a new Nissan Muranno LE (Top of the line) not too long ago.
Very happy with it, comfortable, soft leather, Bose sound, good pick-up, good mileage (avg 21.3 mpg).
I looked at all of the competition and went this way.
You should be able to pick up a brand new one at the price you quoted for the X5 - less if you go for the S or SL models

murano is good but the x5 handling is amazing, just my .02 cents

If you must get an X5, try to get a diesel or a 4.8; the 3.0 gasoline engine is just too underpowered for that car.

Sounds like an amazing deal! I'd definitely get it. The X5 is by far the best daily driver out there!
