Exclamation please help! p0420

k so i did a search but everyone seems to have different opinions on this issue. some say change the cats which is $$$ some say change the post o2s, not so bad and some say just search for vacum leaks, easy enough..

so im gonna use some carberator cleaner to do a vacum check, unless thats not the way with bmw's?? this is my first bmer =)..

then what will tell me to change the o2s vs changing the cats? i have access to an obd2 scan tool..? is there any readouts i should be looking for when using it? or doi have to gain access to a different type of diagnostic tool?

any help is much appreciated!! thanks and ttys

so from doing more reasearch im pretty sure its not the cats, ive read a few posts from people with alot more miles saying they still pass ca smog and have good cats, this would lead me to belive its the o2's so how do i know which ones to change? alot are saying wiht this code to do the post but since $ is tight i would like to know if theres a way to test them individually or to know which ones could more likely be bad.. thanks

man you live in cali your gonna have to shell out the bucks to keep the car on the road. i just put headers on running no cats straight pipes. cats are gonna be WAY CHEAPER then o2 sensors man lol exhaust manifold alone is like 800 bucks i got one for a 330 if you want to buy it.. gonna be least 8 hrs of labor to do the cats.. easy 2k when your all said and done at a dealer. how many miles you got on this car? you can move the 02 sensors from bank 1 to 2 swap em see if the code changes to a different bank if so thats the bad sensor GL

i know which o2s r which but arent the plugs for the post cat o2s on top so i could essentially just switch he plugs to check if the code changes? or di i have to actually switch the sensors in the banks?
