Fronts should be fine but as far as the rears, 9.5 +35 is on the aggressive side, rubbing issues may occur.

yes they will both fit. run a 235/40/18 front and a 245/35/18 rear.

I can try to post one later. Im in a bind because the wheels I bought from JLevi are killing the rear of my car and I dont want any problems from now on. I have 19x9.5 et 40 back there. Im trying to downsize all the way around because they told me they would fit and they dont.

If you have a 19x9.5 et 40 on there now and it is "killing" the rear, going to an 18x9.5 et 35 is probably going to make your situation worse. An et 35 wheel will stick out 5mm (0.20 inches) more than the et 40 wheel.

I assume, when you say "killing" you mean the outer corner of the tire is rubbing on the fender/liner?

It doesn't matter much if you are running an 18" or 19" wheel. Once you put the proper size TIRE on the wheel the outer dimensions of the tire are about the same for both set ups.

What size TIRES do you have on the car now?

Some numbers for reference:
With a 19x9.5 wheel, you can mount a 265/30/19 tire (full wheel width fit & a 25.26" tire diameter) but that will be the most likely to rub. A narrower 255/30/19 for a lean fit (0.4" narrower & barely stretched, 25.1" diameter) a 245/35/19 skinny fit (stretched, 25.8" dia) or an anorexic 235/35/19 (max stretched, 25.5" dia) will all fit your 9.5" wide rim. Any tire diameter between 24.75 and 25.25 inches is pretty normal for our cars. Obviously wider tires and larger tire diameters will tend to rub more. Stretching the tire will reduce the installed diameter & width of the tire at the corners where they would normally rub first.

Does this sound better: For an e46 sedan, is offset 40 19x8.5 in the front and 19x9.5 45 in the back the guaranteed fitment for no rubbing? These are the ones I'm interested in.

That sounds correct. If the offset gets any larger than 45 with a 9.5 wide wheel in the rear I believe you risk rubbing on the inside of the tire.

Nothing is guaranteed. If the tire you choose is too wide or has a very square profile or if the car is lowered it can still rub.

This would fit fine at stock height with 235/255 combo.
