Question Need DIY for HID Fog Light conversion for E46 M3

Would I need to remove the entire bumper?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Nope, simply remove the (I think) 8mm bolts on the inner wheel well. Pry back the plastic wheel well and reach in to untwist the old lights. Slide in the new ones, mount and plug in the ballast and voila!

hey bro... its not hard at all.....
1. remove fog light covers..
2. unscrew the 8mm i believe screws of the fog light assembly.
3. take out the stock fog light bulb by turning
4. install ballast of hid
5. connect wires
6. test lights and follow directions that came with kit for specific details.
Hope this helps.. lmk if u need anything else

hey everyone.... sorry to bring back an OLLDDDDD thraed, but i'd rather bring back old threads than be flamed for creating a new one and being told to "search" when i did and didnt find clarifying info.

i found something from this thread:
http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showthread.php?t=164464

however, whats not clear to me is this:
Is it connected like this?

Socket <- Bulb <- ignitor/ballast complex <- power harness that was originally connected to stock fog light

Does this make sense? What I mean to say is, the bulb goes in the socket, and the ignitor and ballast connects to the bulb.... then the power harness already installed in the car from the factory (and was connected to the original bulb) connects to the ballast, and thats it?
It seems like it should be more complicated..... maybe its the lab that I work in thats slowly killing me :/

Yes, correct.

Stock wiring harness --> Aftermarket wiring --> ballast in --> ballast out --> wiring --> hid bulb

Stock plug:

Goes to aftermarket plug

and into the ballast

From ballast it usually goes straight to the bulb through a pair of thick insulated wires

Ohhh OK, thanks so much for the pictures! They were very helpful!!!

I just ordered a set.. but unfortunately, I ordered the wrong one haha!! I forgot that I have M3 foglights, so instead of ordering 9006 bulbs, I ordered H11 bulbs. DOH!!!
I hope I remember to call to fix my order tomorrow.
