You don't have to. Oh, and I was wrong. I think. You'll have to go to a 2.8, not a 3.0. 330 parts are different than a 328's. Either way you should be just under 200 with this upgrade. And no, you don't have to go to a 6 speed.

Did one run in my stock e36 M with Azzy's 330 swapped 325, we were pretty much even up til about 80mph, and then I got scared and stopped going

he can do a 330 swap.... 2 options in this case

either
A) do the 330 swap but get a 328 manifold so that you don't have to switch to drive by wire throttle... (this means slightly less power than a 330 because i believe the 330 maf and intake are a lot larger even than the 328's)

B) do the complete swap and convert to drive by wire

both of those are pretty pricey. my swap ended up being cheap because i found the engine for next to nothing.

if i'm honest 200 whp is probably going to be very hard on that budget. 323's probably dyno around 140 whp stock... with the mods you have that puts you at maybe 160 whp

my 325 with headers put down 165 whp and i have the better flowing manifold. cams will probably be good for another 10-15 whp but other than that, you won't see too much more of a gain without going to the larger displacement.

edit:

it looks like the 323 uses the same throttlebody as the 328... that means that it's the same size... 2.5" and you can use the 323 manifold with a 330 motor... but again, it will be less power. i'm sure you'll be over 200 whp with headers and the '330+323 intake swap'

lol if you decide to do cams, that will be a pretty good gain and if you rent the cam tools, i could help you install provided the helix gears are already on there...

you could also do the m54 manifold...

the 330 manifold will yield you more torque... but the 325 manifold also has power gains up top. iceman00 did this...

Adam, spacers look good, I will agree with Garrett though, 20mm is a huge spacer and there could and most likely will be some issues down the road.

As far as more power from the 323, I have nothing really to add to anything that these guys have already suggested. It's tough with our engines without going FI.

spacers look awesome, adam! i know i've told you this but those wheels are fantastic... probably one of my favorite oem wheels.

I forgot about that because I think Rich has a certain 330 manifold sitting in a box next to our tire surplus store in the garage

lol do it... the swap isn't too hard...and you get a lot more torque if you go up to the 330 throttle body, intake and maf depending on which way you go, you may need a tune
