Oh, and I'm also reading the KISS Kompendium right now. 40 lbs worth of KISS comics in one hardbound book. I have a secret fantasy of beating an intruder to death with this thing just for the wicked street cred it would bring.

We do math, lots and lots of math. All of engineering is the application of a tried and tested mathematical model of real world in an attempt to predict how the design will react in a given situation. Seriously, all the reading/writing we do is relegated to technical papers. I'm one of the very few who actually has a grasp on language, but then at the same time I'm not the strongest when it comes to math, relative to my peers. Lately I've been drawn toward physics and I think it's because it works both sides of my brain.

OP, I plan on reading Outliers in the near future. I enjoy Malcolm's style, especially after reading Tipping Point.

Ah, yes. Math. I have heard of this "math" of which you speak.

I read The Elegant Universe and felt it was a mind-expanding experience. It seemed like a good book for a layperson like me.

That's the book that really got me interested. Since finishing it, I've torn through every physics related book I can find.

Might have to read that, it sounds cool. I don't believe in creation, and honestly the big bang/expansion doesn't sit well with me, either. They're still something from nothing...IE: creation.
