I'm a little confused, I've just d/l the owner's manual for the alpine Digital TV tuner which is sold here off the aussie alpine site (TUE-150DVA) and under its specs it's listed as MPEG-2 Digital?

I don't think alpine would sell something here which doesn't work.
So now I have no idea if we are under MPEG-2 or MPEG-4?

Hopefully someone here can further clarify.

The exact standard is I believe; AS/NZS 13818.2:2002 It looks like you need to pay to buy the document.

Single row (Single panel of buttons = one strip without breaks in it that all the buttons fit into.


Individual buttons = Button strip where you can add other buttons by cutting the strip shorter.



Note the line on the edge that breaks up the button.

From my understanding, the analog signal will continue till 2013 somewhere in Australia while the digital signal too will be available as it does already (which is why we can, at this moment in time, view HDTV on our new TVs or use a set-top box to receive the digital channels on older analog only TVs), however between 2010 - 2013 the analog signal will be turned off region by region and by 2013 only the digital signal will prevail.
Coincidentally today Mildura was the first region to turn off the analog signal which means they will have only transmit digital signals, any one who has an analog tv will be dumping it or getting a set-top box in Mildura today;

So by 2013 or sooner this unit will be worthless if you want to watch TV on it

I wouldn't say worthless. In fact you can attach a DVB-T box and control via IR remote.

Probably but it still doesn't make the unit worthless (those that want to watch tv) because it is still possible to do so.

If there are ways around it then yes certainly not worthless, probably not the term to use, my apologies.
