Front Ball joints gone bad. What are my options?

So I have a 2000 323ci that I picked up. It has 37k miles and I paid $10k for it. Very happy with my purchase. I had a pre-purchase inspection done by a BMW dealer and they told me the front ball joints are shot. As you probably know I need to buy a whole new front control arm since the ball joint is part of the assembly. SInce I am new to this car, I searched to see what my options are and can't get a clear answer.

Should I just replace the control arm with OEM parts or is there a aftermarket one that is in the same price range that I should be looking at? This is my daily driver and second car so i am more interested in saving money than gaining performance, but if there is an option that just happens to gain performance/reliability for the same cost, I am all ears! Also, is it a simple repair (other than packing the bushings)?

I want to do it myself if possible. Thanks in advance!

I would hit up Jason @ Tischer and get the ZHP Front Control Arms. These ZHP FCA are Beefy and last a long time. Then, I would order some Powerflex Front Control Arm Bushins or Meyle HD FCAB.

Thanks!

I also need new rear brake rotors and pads. I DO NOT need to make this thing track ready, but can you recommend any cheap/good rear rotor and pad combos? I found a few OEM ones on Tischer's website for $28-56 each. Is that my best bet?

Appreciate the info.....

If your looking to upgrade you might want to consider the Meyle HD components.

We have actually created a kit that includes both:

* Meyle all metal ball joint control arms (left & right)
* Meyle upgraded control arm bushings
* Meyle related hardware

Our kit has been specifically assembled by us to include the 1st stage of common wear items on your E46 BMW. Not only does this ECS E46 suspension rebuild kit replace those common wear items we upgrade your units with Meyle upgraded all metal ball joints & Meyle upgraded suspension bushings. Change the way your E46 feels & even upgrade further than with parts from your BMW dealer. These control arms feature replaceable ball joints.

Click HERE to order or for more information.

Please let us know if you have any questions! Feel free to shoot me a PM or email.

Best,
Joe
