New AR Builds Underway

JP Enterprises adjustable trigger came in yesterday, and I just installed it on my Mk12 SPR. At $132, it's a great bargain. The components appear to be mil-spec quality, so they're pretty rugged. Compared to other single-stage triggers, this is a really good buy from what I can see. I'll have to do some testing with it for durability, but at first glance, I'd recommend it if you want a better trigger pull. The trigger down to around 3.5lbs, and I'm sure that on rapid fire engagement, I will be able to shoot a lot faster with this trigger. There is very little travel on it, which is always a good thing.

The VLTOR CASV-M forend came in today. Here's the mock-up of it with the stripped receiver. The 16" upper is there for comparison.

Alright, here's the first SPR mock-up. It'll be set to go once I get the 18" Mk12 barrel in. For now, it just retains the 16" carbine barrel.
I anticipate the scope coming in sometime within the next week or two. No clue how long it'll be for the barrel.

Man that thing looks long!

Yeah it does. I noticed that too. It's no longer than a normal 16" carbine, but the Troy 13.8" forend rail really makes it seem long. Kinda cool. Makes me wonder what it'll look like with the 18" on.

Okay, just a bit of a rant here, but I'm getting pissed off. 5 weeks and STILL nothing from the ATF. They cashed the check for the NFA stamp, I know that. But that was 3 weeks ago. Where's my stamp?!?! I did the Trust method, so theoretically, I should be getting this thing any day now... Theoretically.

The original gun was spray painted tan. Then I took off parts and the forend and grip are flat dark earth (FDE) colored. The black on the cheek rest is from excess wear from my face.

Fixed. And yes, it's embarrassing. My wife is 5'2'' and her hands are the same size. That's why I can't shoot double-stack .45s.

Well, the Mk12 barrel came in this morning. I've already done a mock-up and now am waiting for the loctite to dry on the Mk12 gas block bottom screws. Once that's done, I'll finalize the build. Barrel is still black, though. I'm most likely going to paint it, but probably not until later tonight. Now I just have to wait for word on the scope, which is still backordered.

Any response from ATF?

Nice gun, i'm just not a fan of sprayed guns... Unless I was in the desert and had a tactical advantage to doing it... but to each his own!

Not yet. I talked to a couple other guys who put in their Form 4 and Form 1 submissions around the same time I did. They said that there is a massive backlog right now and the ATF can't keep up. The Trust route used to take a month, but now it's going on two months with no sign of progress.

The main reason I paint many of my weapons is for weather resistance. Paint makes a good moisture barrier, and it's easier and cheaper than DuraCoat or Cerakote. It's also nice because it can be removed easily and repainted to different schemes for different environments, or just removed and left off. Also, I just really like the color tan. It really is a personal preference thing.

Most people really don't need to do it, though. I just shoot a lot in inclement weather and it's proven to be pretty effective against oxidation and corrosion resulting from precipitation, ambient moisture or barrel "sweating".

My next rifle will be a DMR/SDMR in 5.56 or another SBR/PDW-style in 6.8mm. At least one of those will wind up being black and green two-tone.

Completely dense question. How did you get the 7.5" barrel? Here in CO it's 16" minimum.
