Problem with coolant?

So a couple of days ago, my engine coolant light came on despite the temperature gauge acting normal. I filled up water to see if it would stop. It didn't, so yesterday I went and got some coolant, filled it up so that the tip of the stick pokes out a couple of inches. Now the temperature gauge takes a little longer than usual to get to the middle which is expected, but the light still comes on, and theres a hissing sound from the coolant area every time I turn off the car... Is this normal? I did accidentally spill some coolant outside of the tank, so it just the coolant burning off? Sorry for the noob questions, I'm just being paranoid.

Did you bleed the air out? Im sure you can find DIY threads on here. If your coolant level light came on, then you probably got air trapped in there.
