no, just removed the sunroof trim, and there is a space between the headliner and the roof. wiring was super easy.

If you want ambient light i would sugest retrofiting one from an mercdes. The one from rear would look good. It has a nice glow orange and really easy to take off. I wouldnt do this on my car but ye.
