DontBlogAboutThis.com Prototype - Anyone know what this thing is?

BMW launched a new marketing site, DontBlogAboutThis.com with the following teaser videos and pictures. The car looks like a 6 series, but look how skinny the tires are. What the heck is going on?

It sounds like an electric or hybrid 6 series. Could explain the skinny tires too, looks like a prius! Oh and those wheel faces - low wind resistance...interesting.

probably a bike with a 6 series body on it, with a radio to sound like a hybrid car.

I have seen this car at my dealer, it's all covered with tape on it. but it's being driven by the customer having their bmw serviced, i did not try it, but all i can say....WHEW, BMW is really starting imo to loose their style. i know i will get bashed for this but i find their new design tasteless, i hate the way the back end of the new e9x platforms are done, and i know i am not the only thinking this, as for the front it's an aquired taste for me, but i ssure you this new one is really fugly, at first i myself thought it was an X6, but then the dimensions were off as i was getting closer, i vomited a bit in my mouth, the sales guy next to me just smiled and said i little "I know"

Before i forget, they dealer also had another model there, a bit smaller than the X6 but bigger than the X3, it was a small sized suv, that one also was all covered in tape only had the windows and handles cleared of the white paper, it also looked "off" not quite what BMW would design...well not their lines....also wondering what that was... anyone knows ?

looks smaller then a 6, judging by the tiny tires, its a hybrid diesel or something.

everybody keeps saying tiny tires....since when is a 195 tire tiny ? most mid size cars use that tire width, only when you get to 17 or 18 inch wheels that you starts eing 205 215 225 width tires really

yea, but have you ever seen anything close to that size on a 6? smaller tires = less resistance to turn = better mpg. i'm sure they aren't worried about the performance loss with the smaller rubbers because you wouldn't be buying this car for extreme performance.

Yup, looks like a hybrid or electric concept of some sort, similar to the concept Porsche is messing around with (especially the wheels):

I think the front is kind of cool, even though it's a different design direction for BMW... it looks fugly with those thin tires, though. I miss Chris Bangle ...

Not really. 205/55/16, for example, is a very common size on passenger cars. 195 width seems to be getting less common these days, and you almost never see anything thinner than a 185.

Maybe I'm making things up, but didn't BMW want to skip the Hybrid scene and go straight to electric/hydrogen?

There's not... doesn't mean they wouldn't still develop for it. Hell, Honda has been testing their Hydrogen car with a few families in California for the past year or two and utilizing a couple hydrogen gas stations

i'm sure saturn could share some info about releasing a car without a market.

i mean, besides looking like a piece of garbage, there just wasn't a market for it. the same may go for hydrogen, but anything bmw makes won't be cheap.

I think you are right, I've read somewhere that they were the first to develop an hydrogen car, the 6 series were built around that i think, but that was like 4-5 years ago...
