wow! sick set up guys!

When i used to go to school 2xx miles away i was really close to getting a CB, & scanner in conjunction with my k40 undetectable that i used to have, but decided not to since i wasn't going to go there anymore.

This thread is making me want to get back into scanners, radar detectors, and cbs. ol

Make sure to do some reading up on what frequencies the police use in the areas you drive before buying anything. Radioreference.com has a great database to find that info.

A few newer pics.. Maybe I should drill a small hole behind the speaker to hide the wire?

Currently have a Escort 8500 X50 and a Midland 75-822 CB with a mag mount CB antenna from Radio Shack. I get a solid 1-2 miles with that. Only issue is it gets hard to understand people if the other person is nearby. (i.e. at a stop light, or within a few car lengths on the interstate)

I have similar plans for a BCT15X and a remote head for it in the future. Not sure where I am going to put it though, since I have plans for a Dynavin too.

^good choice on the 8500x50. I had the RS mag mount antenna as well and it really does suck, but I had it paired with a cheap ass cobra unit lol.

Actually, my issue is it is too good at short distances. Picks up too much signal and gets distorted. Make sure you put any single mag mount antenna in the middle of your roof to get the best ground plane possible (on a car, that is).

Is that a NMO mount? I like the placement. Not the best for antenna performance, but looks better than a big whip antenna on the roof imo.

You want the largest, flat, unobstructed grounding plane possible, especially at 11 meter (CB, ~27Mhz) frequencies. A trunk lid does not give you a very large circular ground plane, plus you also have the roof and A/B/C pillars in the way, electromagnetically. Cellular and 2.4Ghz ISM/12cm band (WiFi) can get away with far smaller, but you still need a grounding plane of some sort to get decent performance out of an omnidirectional antenna.

With almost any omnidirectional antenna, your best bet is usually in the dead center of the roof. That, however looks really odd, especially on a BMW.
