My Ride: 2000 328i
2000 328i Dyno

Went to a local shop today to get my car "dynoed" for the first time, using a Dyna Pack dynometer. Car is pretty much bone stock(powerwise) 2000 328i with the 5 speed manual transmission. Just have a Conforti air intake, UUC TSE3 cat-back exhaust and Redline oil in the trans. and diff. Car has 96k miles on it. Outside tempature was about 70 degrees.

First pull got a reading of about 170hp. It kept getting higher by a couple hp each pull until it hit 178.3hp with 197.0 ft/lbs of torque. After that, it would just get a max reading of about 177hp.

What sucks is that a 1995 nissan maxima se makes 177hp at the wheels bone stock. And it is family economy car.

The Altima was an economy car, the Maxima was a mid size sedan. I don't consider any car that comes with a V6 motor standard as an "economy" car.

VQ ftw.

There's no comparing these cars if you drive them...and the tire squealing got old before I was done with the maxima test drive.

My girl friend use to own a 95 Maxima. The E46 is a lot more fun to drive, stock vs stock. I consider E46's family/economy cars(seats 4, 30+mpg).

I didnt get a graph, since it was a Dyno Day/BBQ and they were just getting cars in and out doing baselines. I will ask and see if I can get one.

You mentioned this session was for baseline numbers; but any plans for tuning? Did they measure AFR's?

Hate when manufacturers measure at the crank. Waste of time. I am not buying an engine, I am buying the whole car, lol

I didnt measure the Air/Fuel ratio since Im not planning on tuning. I am trying to class my car for NASA Time Trials TTE class, so my car is pretty much maxed out on modification points.

Because the specific out put of the engine can be better measured at the crank then through the drive line, trans, and diff, even the tire pressure and tension of the straps holding the car down. All of which can change the numbers.
