It seems like you are overpacked in some areas with luxurious and/or redundant items. If you have the capacity to carry all this stuff then by all means it's great to have but, if weight and space are a concern I would suggest the following changes: RD = redundant, you have an equivalent item elsewhere (ponchos/raincoats, 2 types of gloves, machete/hatchet) LUX = luxury item/non-critical GRN = additional suggestions Also, a question: How much cash do you guys think is enough? If power goes down you could be without access to an ATM for an extended time period. $200 seems very low to me.

Constructive criticism is always welcome. However, all of that gear fits in one trunk and some items listed as luxury are actually the travel versions and very small (dental floss, shampoo, nail clippers, etc) and take up very little space.
I prepared the trunk so that I can grab it and go, and I don't need to follow my wife around the house while she says "okay, but I need to pack this too". I can say "No. It's already packed. Let's get the f$ck out". ![]() I probably should have more cash. Neither of us wear contacts, but she does wear glasses so I should grab an old pair of hers. Great suggestion. |

I honestly don't think it'd be a big issue for many people be needing body armor. Given that most "bug-out" situations would be related to natural disasters or some form of chemical spill/toxic contamination, it would be more prudent to invest in essential survival supplies. Most SAPI plates run about 6.5-7lbs (unless you get Dyneema Polyethylene plates, which you probably wouldn't be able to), and you need two of them. Having a plate carrier is nice, but they work much better when combined with soft armor. You're looking at anywhere from 17 to 35lbs of weight, depending on what carry system you'd use. Keep in mind that a bug-out system is designed to do just that- BUG OUT. Get out of Dodge, not stand and fight. Heavy battle armor is going to just slow you down. It'd be much more prudent to invest in standard NIJ Level IIIA concealable Kevlar body armor.
Of course, I won't negate those of you/us that have bug-out equipment for a Red Dawn scenario.

To be honest, I'd keep all medical supplies. In the event of any major crap going down, medical personnel will be in high demand.
That said, if you just need money, selling one for some pocket change isn't the worst idea in the world. It could buy another gun..

I finally had the opportunity to review all of the hurricane supplies and the bail out bag with my wife. She was very receptive, and grateful, that I had done so much planning. I was really happy that she took the preparation seriously. She gets it.
In other news, I built a hidden closet in my house over the last few weeks to store all of my gear. I did it in my last house, and it's a neat place to keep my supplies, guns, safe, etc..

All of you that are packing multiple trunks....how do you plan on travelling with those if you have to go on foot? Talk about a slow and easy target.
