Ported or Sealed Sub-Box
Hey everyone,
So I have a question if you all could please provide your expertise and experience.. I recently installed 2 12" Rockford Fosgates (Shallow Mount) in the trunk with a custom box and I didn't mention to the installed when building the box to have it ported or sealed. Could you all please explain to me what's the difference and which setup for the car will have a better sound? Thanks in advance! PS - Here's a pic of the box installed ![]()

From the pics it looks sealed but could have added under the box. Take pics of as many sides of the box. Personaly I like sealed. To me it gives me a cleaner sounding bass, but to each there own.

But looks like you answered what I needed to know...just like you, I want a cleaner sounding bass, I want a "theatrical" sound coming from my car if that makes sense

There is no "better" setup....they have different pros and cons. In general if you want accurate sound in a small space, sealed will be better FOR YOU. If you want more ouput for a given speaker at the expense of a slightly less accurate output, and a slightly bigger box, ported might be a better option....

As said there is no 'better'. Some prefer and swear by sealed and others ported. Is there a complaint about the system now? Something you want to change?

for thought. one other thing to consider is the additional space requirements of a ported box. generally close to 2x the size of a sealed box. which is best will always depend on the situation. ie sub, vehicle, personal preference, space availible, etc etc. for me, ported unless impossible circumstances.
