Speakers for front doors..5.25" or 6.5"?
Looking to install Boston Pro's up front and needed some advice on which size to go with. Other than physical size, they pretty much have identical specs.
Would the 6.5's sound significantly better than the 5 1/4's in the car? Obviously, I'm a noob when it comes to this stuff, but I really like the sound of this set and I know the 5.25's would be much easier to install. I'm gonna have an installer do it regardless so would it be worth the extra trouble (and $) because from what I've read in other threads, it looks like you have to cut into the doors to get the 6.5's in? thanks |

Are you sure they are identical specs? Iwould think the 6.5 should be more powerful,no? Anyhow, i installed 6.25 infinitys cs60.9 in the rear and i can tell you with just the rear, the sound is overpowering...
I also have the same pair for the front, and lke you said you'll have to cut the doors. If you trust the installer go for it. Bigger is better |

they handle the same power (125W RMS), but the frequency range is a little more with the 6.5's.

Bigger will obviously give you more low end, but how far are you willing to go to modify the door? I got 7" Seas drivers in my doors with a LOT of cutting.

Go 6.5's.
You will be moving more air and get more punch. Just do it. |

If you are going to spend the time to install a speaker that is going to require a little custom work definitely go with the 6.5". The OEM speaker is a 6.25" so going down to a 5.25" will at minimum require making a custom bracket. Many times you can do less work to mount a 6.5" driver. Of course if you want a drop in component set ours require no modification to fit.

They offer adapter plates to attatch a 5.25" to the door panel. So that would be the easy route, however, do it right. I guarantee you'll buy 6.5" down the line and do it right
