Yes I read I'm just confused from the videos. So can you just confirm if it's safe to put it straight onto chrome only taping the edges so it doesn't get onto the tire? Surely the green rim in the video isn't the ACTUAL color of his wheel, it has to be tape... who would have a rim that color. That is why I'm confused

you do not need to "protect" your rim with tape or anything (i don't see how the final product would look good if you taped the rim then sprayed it). Just clean thoroughly, remove everything from the surface if you need to clean with a greasy substance such as a wheel cleaner or any type of chemical, do so then clean the area with water to remove any residue. Let the surface completely dry then spray it with the plastidip. If you don't want the plastidip, you can just peel it off and the surface underneath won't be ruined.

As for cleaning I used a soapy cloth and gingerly ran it on the surface of the rims. Sprayed with a hose and they are still perfect. Obviously you would not use a brush!!!
The great thing about black rims is even dirty they still look good |

This stuff is pretty durable. When I wash my car, I just gently wipe over the plasti dipped grills, and it's perfectly fine.

How would you plastidip something like the.sunglasses holder/ashtray compartment? I know this isn't a rim, but I figured I'd ask instead of making a new thread.
If I use painters tape do I immediately remove it after I spray so the plastic doesnt harden over it?

Plasti Dip are so forgiving.
And one more thing, for those of you who has OLD / DIRTY tire walls; apply a light even coat to the tire walls will make the tire looks NEW again! ![]() FORGET cleaning tires. I had to jump on this one, since I was going to pay a buddy $25 per wheel to powder coat them (cheap really), but I did not like the idea of changing the stock wheels permanently. SO this was a great idea, I went Sat. picked up the spray $5.99 at Home Depot, I got four cans, extra for touch ups. This is how it turned out.

Also you can have variety of colors on your rims with Plasti Dip. Spray paint a color of your choice on top of the Plasti Dip. Peel it off if you want to change it. I saw this on a different forum. /// ( @ )( @ ) ![]() OEM M-Tech II front & rear bumper /// Cluster Ring /// Grimace Fog Lights /// DEPO corners /// CCFL angel eye 330i Diff /// REMUS Exhaust /// Heat Shield Cold Air Intake Last edited by sellsellsell2000; 02-14-2011 at 01:33 PM. |
