Odd, I drove both and I despised the manual. For the E60 M5 the SMG is definitely the way to go, the clutch pedal on the 6MT felt awful, not to mention the gearing is so far apart. Definitely test drive both and I'll bet you'll like the SMG better.

PS- my daily driver is a manual so I have nothing against manuals. The SMG in the M5 just felt better

Current: E60 M5 6MT; E46 M3 6MT
Sold: E46 330CiA; E36 M3/2/5; E60 M5 SMG

Yeah, I am am always saying 'manual only' and that I will never buy an automatic, but M5 E60 feels really good with an SMG. Haven't driven the 6sp, but the SMG works really well with the S85.

I like the E46 M3 much better as a 6sp. SSK is a must though. Love the M3 actually, hoping to get into one again in the future.

Guys! There are enough out-of-dealership networks to make owning one of these cars a less expensive venture. There's even a guy on Fanatics (..in the Bay area) who is well known for his mechanic/repair/maintenance skills. He has all of the software/computer equipment to update the systems, etc....and he charges a fair fee which is much less than what the dealership charges.

Yeah there is one good dealer here in the Twin Cities when it comes to service (Motorwerks) and about two good independent shops. So there are plenty of options.

As well you should be. The V10 M5 is an exotic car and parts prices are equally exotic.

Where abouts in Woodbury do you live? I grew up there and have lived my entire life there (besides 4 years at college, sad I know) until about a month ago.

mmmm...M5.... One of these days I tell you, I just need to keep saving seeing as though I just got out of college...
