You likely didn't install the struts properly.

What he said.
Pull your passenger wheel off. Unbolt the 16 or 17 mm bolt that holds the brake assembly/knuckle to the strut. Once you do this, remove the knuckle off the strut by pushing down on it. It will come down fast so be careful. Now, once you get the knuckle off, inspect the bottom of the strut. There is a small metal nub maybe 2 mm in diameter and 4 mm long. This nub must go down into the knuckle so that you can't see it. Hard to explain in words. If you could see the nub before, then it was not installed correctly. The housing that holds the knuckle to the strut has a slit towards the engine bay. Your goal is to get the nub into the slit all the way down, and then tighten the 16 or 17 mm bolt. Good luck. And you didn't get scammed. They couldn't do the alignment because you installed the struts incorrectly.

ya sounds like you installed them wrong, either the shock isnt sitting properly and/or the spring. once you fix that go back to the alignment place and tell them your steering is off and you need it fixed

I love E46 Fanatics for reasons of threads like this! OP, I hope you get your car aligned and I hope that Alignment tech can get his job back too! LOL

Use this DIY to install the springs:
http://www.e46fanatics.com/howto/how...hp?howto_id=12 The shop will probably do the alignment once the install is right. I've installed ProKit springs twice and always get the specified drop. The shop should not start work on your car if it can't do the alignment.
