EGS swap

I have a 2000 328i that is getting the dreaded "Gear Monitoring" code.

I downloaded the Software for my EGS and reprogrammed it. The problem is still there. (Transmission downshifts from 5th to 4th for no reason and trips safe mode about 60 seconds later.)

I am going to swap the EGS out next to see if that fixes the problem. I have an EGS from 2000 323is. Will that work in my 2000 328i? From my understanding the 328 came with a GM box and the 323 had a ZF box. Any ideas?

P.S. I also swapped out the MAF sensor with a spare one i had laying around so that is eliminated from the list of possible causes.

Any help is greatly appreciated as always.

Have you tried clearing the modules adaptation memory?

I Reset the learning curves first thing before I updated the software in the EGS.

Update - Borrowed an EGS unit from a 2000 323i I'll let you guys know what happens tonight. (Fingers Crossed.)

Update - Picked up a used 5 speed auto from my friends junkyard today. I'm gonna throw it in tomorrow and hopefully we are good to roll. I ended up with a spare DME and EGS for anyone who needs one.
