So I got a nice new Inzer weight belt...

Black leather, 10mm thick, non-tapered, really nice...

And now I'm in the hospital after an emergency appendectomy and won't be lifting for about a month

That sucks. Did you get a lever belt or a single or dual prong? Have you used a belt before this one? I remember the first time I squatted heavy with a belt...... eye opening experience for sure.

LOL!

Pretty standard - pain in my abdomen and a fever, went to the ER, was admitted as soon as they realized it was appendicitis, had surgery early the next morning.

I got a non-tapered 10mm single buckle belt in black suede. I've used belts before, but always tapered "bodybuilding" ones - never a non-tapered thick "powerlifting" style belt.

The Inzer belts aren't cheap, but the quality seems to be great.

Yeah, they are pretty badass. I got a 10mm Titan Lever. I actually wanted the Inzer but I heard bad things about their customer service. How was your experience with them?

I actually didn't experience their customer service. I just ordered online and it showed up about a week later.

sounds painful man....for some reason when I first read the thread title, I thought the new belt caused some sort of lifting injury which landed you in the ER

well at least you now have the perfect excuse to slack off

Haha maybe I should clarify - my surgery has nothing to do with the belt. I'm just bummed bc I was excited to try it out and now it's going to be a while.

And I hate slacking off!

Hope you get better man. I never realized how expensive weightlifting can actually be until I really started getting into it. Between supplements, food, and lifting equipment - sht can get expensive!

How much did you end up paying? ~$100?

Lifting can be really expensive. Competing is even worse.

I think the belt I got was like $67 shipped. They do have some $100 belts though.

Obviously everyone's experience will be different, but my pain wasn't that bad. It certainly wasn't intolerable or enough to put me in tears. When I would raise my right knee (like to toe my shoe when sitting down) that hurt kinda bad. I had a much weaker than usual appetite as well.

Ultimately though it was the fever that made me go to the ER.

Then again, a lot of people do experience unbearable pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, etc. I was fortunate with my symptoms though and noticed it before the appendix burst.

How you feeling?

I've heard that they've made some huge strides in appendectomy surgeries in the past 10 years. I remember in the NHL playoffs a few years ago this defenseman for the Red Wings had an appendectomy and was playing 4 days later. I was out of commission for 5 or 6 weeks when I had mine out 10 years ago (and apparently it was even worse than that 20+ years ago when they didnt do them laproscopically).

Anyways, get well soon.
