Had my headliner replaced over the weekend. Pic's
So my headliner was ripped at the corners when i bought the car. Eventually the plastic corner pieces snapped in to pieces. So I purchased the repair kit. BMW part #54-31-7-135-351. My Indy was going to use the repair kit to fix it but told me my headliner was to far gone. So I need to source a new headliner. Found an OEM alternative here: http://www.autotopsdirect.com/BMW-3-...-Tops-s/56.htm
Guaranteed fitment about $300 shipped compared to OEM around $800. The OEM top comes with the plastic pieces and the aftermarket one does not. So you have to buy the repair kit if you go with the aftermarket top. I ended up buying a OEM headliner from my Indy for $300. After shopping around and finding all kinds of crazy prices( $300-$700) I found a local installer. Broward tops and interiors. Gave me a quote of $300 on the phone. He ended up doing it for $150 ![]() Now on to the before Pics http://[URL=http://img130.imageshack.us/i/dscf0152q.jpg/] ![]() http://[URL=http://img860.imageshack.us/i/dscf0154v.jpg/]

Now for the after pic's
The installer had my got my car at 9am Saturday morning. I called around 1pm and he said it would be ready in a half an hour. So i got there and he said 5 min. It was done and he went to put the top down and the plastic pieces on my OEM liner snapped to pieces. He told me he will use the repair kit. I said how much more is this going to cost me? He said same just going to take some more time. About 4:15 pm it was finished.
Pics ![]() ![]() Realistically I think it will be had to find a place to do the headliner that cheap. If you are in south florida i woul drffentitly give broward tops a call. Or you brave DIY's can give it a shot. I would call around to a bunch of shops before getting this done. I think the dealership charges 7 hours labor for this. The installer at broward told me he does these all the time and sometimes it takes an hour sometimes four.

I was hoping for DIY pics. I don't need a new liner, but if I ever do I want to know how it's done.
I replaced the batwing tabs and re-ran the string recently. That was clearly a simpler task than replacing the entire liner, but it showed me a little more about how it all works. Fortunately the broken plastic never broke through the liner.
