Received Damaged Bilstein Sport Strut. Is it serious?

Hi,

Just received a set of 4 brand new bilstein sports for a '01 330xi and upon inspection noticed one of the front struts had the collar piece bent and paint flaking off. Is this a major problem/defect? If it is just cosmetic, I may just install them as they are as I don't want to wait another month for replacement.

I've attached some pics of the defective one next to the non-defective one. Hope that made sense.

Hmmm. Can't help I'm afraid. Trying to understand what that clamp/strap is doing? It appears to be split and tack welded in place on each end. My gut tells me not to worry, this is cosmetic. Hopefully someone will offer more concrete advice. GL

Ask the vendor.

I dont think it will effect your ride. As long as the welding is intact and it looks like it is. Its only a cosmetic defect but since you did pay some good money for these and when it comes to suspension you want to make sure its 110% in good condition, I would just contact the vendor for a replacement.

you can get a flat head screw driver and with a hammer tap it back to place. It just a little bent

It looks like that ring is crimped and welded, probably to maintain the top seal. This ring is clearly looser in the damaged one. I'd install the rears and ask for a replacement before doing the fronts.
