New to me...02 M
OK.. so I've been out of the M game for a few. Been dabbiling in a Benz or 2, Porsche and some good ol American cars. But found my way back to my first love. Still have my 88 M3 in my garage and wouldn't even dream of sellin' but I recently impuse bought a 02 M3 vert. I don't know much about the E46 platform but let me say she has a little better attitude than my Porsche. She pulls a little better but the corners go to the Porsche for me. That being said, I was wondering about a few different noises in the rear of the car. I bought it with Bilstien coils and there was major noise back there when I bought it. I changed the usual culprits, the shock mounts and it was less noisy. But as my tavels continue I hear a noise just as pronounced as before the repair. It's not as often but just as loud. It's coming from the drivers side rear. What else should I be looking for? And what bushings should be changed to get her riding like new again? By the way it has 90,000 miles on her. Thanks for any input.

While I can't give much input as to what's what on your car (as I just became a Bimmer owner myself), I must say that your car looks really clean. If everything goes well, it'll be a great purchase!

did you have it checked out by a garage or the dealer before your purchase? if it has 90K on it you might want to check the coils for any bubbles they might have, and if im not mistaken you can send them back to bilstien and have them rebuilt for a little cost. what noises are you hearing to be exact?

Check the differential bushings and see if the subframe ripped out of the floor.
(And yeah, "noise" is a bit vague.) Luv the car. |

Thanks for the compliments! No I didn't do a pre buy inspection. Total impulse buy. The sub frame bushings look tight. Nothing looks like it's getting torn out. Rear differerntial looks tight too. Is there a certain way I should be checking these bushinhgs? And yes, your right. Noise is very vaige. It's a thumping? cluncking noise. Very close the busted shock mount noises. I thought they might have busted again but there isn't even a thousand miles on them. Any other thoughts?
