My Son and I ride 6700's. I've always ridden Stumpjumpers, but at this price point, the Trek is a better choice in my opinion.

You'll love the bike, though. My first serious bike was a 6000 that I did minor upgrades to and it was a fantastic bike. The only reason I upgraded was because I found a good deal on a used Turner, then subsequently on a brand new Turner Sultan. 29er is the best choice for me, but you made a good choice in picking the 6700. A mountain bike magazine here called the Trek 6 series the best choice for a hardtail 26er. |

Certainly an upgrade from your old Windsor. Any BMX type platform pedals will do if you don't want to go clipless. I suggest you try clipless though. Once you get used to it, you will never go back.

Try eggbeaters they are just great or XTR, they let you adjust how hard or easy it is to clip in and out. Eggbeaters are fairly easy. It just takes time to adjust, but once that's done your brain makes you unclip even in a sudden crash. |

only newbs and hardcore DH/Freeriders use flat pedals...man up and learn to unclip quickly. everyone has an adjustment period, it will eventually become second nature

I was once flipping over and my foot immediately clicked out, without even thinking about it. If not, stick to your platform, it's not that you can't ride like that, it just became uncommon over the years. I love clipless. |

Its not just for slipping. Clipless allow your leg to power the bike in a full 360 range of motion. Much more efficient and power per stroke +different muscles.

clipless refers to a day when toe-clips were the main attraction. Rat cages were clips and the new style of hard mounted clips on bottoms of shoes are "(toe)clip less"
