alignment

Just wondering is it necessary to get an alignment when you upgrade your wheels and tires from 16 inch to 18 inch? I seem to get a noticeable pull left or right depending on the road. Could it be the low profile tires feeling more of the road which is causing this problem?

swapping your wheels have nothing to do with your alignment. The new wheels or tires might not be balanced well or they might be bent...

As far as the wheels being bent they are new. As far as balancing wouldn't that cause the car to shake at speed I'm getting none of that.

Alignment is necessary when you upgrade your wheels and tires. If alignment of the vehicle is OK then life of the your any vehicle is going up.

Narrower tires are less apt to cause tramlining. Wider, low profile tires can cause what you are seeing. But, when was the car last aligned? What is the condition of the bushings, shocks etc? The alignment heads attach to the wheel. But, changing wheels doesn't change the alignment unless something was bent. Alignment settings may need to change for wider wheels and tires to correct this problem. Start with a good underside inspection. If all is well you need to put it on the alignment rack to determine if there is a problem.

All is well with the underside since I get service done on a regular basis at the dealer. I think it's like you said with the wider tires. I'm going to let them look at the alignment anyway, how much will something like this cost?
