You'd be surprised once you get into this stuff, how often you can need something like that. Everyone I know has found it takes a couple of tries to get the alignment right with the right tools. Then there's always the search for more power.....upgraded cams.....ported head....all that needs the tools again. |

Ok can you tell me if there is REALLY a reason to get CP or Wiseco pistons? I've been reading and people just go back and forth. Does it matter?

For what it's worth, I'd be more inclined to work with a vendor that has great service. Whatever that vendor carried, that's what I'd go with. For me, Racers Edge was great to work with for the custom pistons I had done for the race car. But...it would take some time to get the pistons they sell from Germany for your application. TMS (Turner Motorsport) has always been great for engine internals for me. If you are on a tight timeline, I would call TMS. I would be inclined to source all of the engine internals from one vendor as well. The more I've spread things out, the more I've had to become technically involved and coordinate what fits with what. Better to leave that to the guys you are paying for their advice by buying their products. |

To remove the front crank bolt I took some pieces of lumbar (random sizes) and wedged them between the block at the crankshaft in a couple spots. Then got a 3 ft + breaker bar and it came off. Took a couple tries to get the wood right, but I used spruce (soft white wood) so I couldn't crack anything on the block.
Edit - the BMW way to do it is to get a tool like this: http://www.technictool.com/bmwflywheel-1.htm (lower left - 112-170) and replace the starter with it, this locks the flywheel and viola, you can put a crap ton of force on it without anything slipping.

Good idea you'll love it. Nick is great to work with also.
Indeed I was so close to buying another kit...... Quote:
If it wasn't for Nick G., Adam(PEI330Ci), and Bluejeans it would of been harder. Anyways I dropped the head and block at the machine shop today. Pics when i get it back.

Why are some of them burnt looking? Never seen that. First time with these plugs.
Can you see the that the blades look like something has been chewing on the edge? Is this normal? Can't wait to see it finished.

As for the turbo blades looking wierd , i dont see anything :S If you're refering to the blades looking as if they were razorblades it's perfectly fine ![]() What are you having done at the shop ? Swapping pistons is something you can DIY(As you've already pulled the engine apart ^^) Im leaving my head/ block to a shop for honing the cylinder walls/resurfacing the head everything else i'll diy ![]() Oh and remember to redo the valve gaskets , while you have the head apart that is Last edited by SweTurbo; 05-02-2011 at 06:29 PM. |

Do you have a lot of rain, or drive through a lot of water. Sucking up water can cause a bit of erosion on the tip of the compressor blades.

The burnmarks(might be "rust" from the nearby metal too) on the sparkplugs are fine if the plugs have been used for abit of time, although in rare cases it can be that they leak exhaust gasses.
