Loud hum from left rear.

What would cause a loud hum from left rear? When you drive straight or are turning to the right it hums real bad. If you turn to the left and unload the left rear it doesn't hum. Could the culprit be the wheel bearing or maybe the axle or something? Its getting checked out tomorrow while being inspected but not by a BMW service center. Just a local garage. Any help in advance is appreciated. Thanx, Berg
