I got mine for about $15,000, but it came with a free car.
I love the screen.
It is not a matter of "will it slam down on you", but "when will it slam down on you" and scare the &$#@ out of you.
Mine was fine passing trucks and other vehicles, but happens most frequently when I am on a bridge and get a cross wind. And yes, My heart skipped a beat...

Hey all, I just got one after amazing results on my E36 and 500SL. Got on CL for 250 in like new condition. It has BMW very subtly printed across the mesh in big letters. I have seen this on only a few... is this a function of having come with an M3? Is this indeed rare?

The BMW print version is not really rare. When dealers still sold the E46 accessories you could choose either the blank wind deflector or the one with BMW on it for the same price.

the pin sounds cool, but can't you exert a little more pressure on the windscreen to prevent it from folding while driving by pressing down on the two knobs on the bottom edge of the screen? that has always worked for me and never had a windscreen fall down during 4 years of ownership...but then again, I don't live in Chicago lol.

I just got an E46 M3 convertable...sold my 330Ci. My question is WILL the windscreen fit in the top compartment with the top down? I store it in there with the top UP but will it hurt my window or top if I folded the top down...sometime I have a rear passenger with top down.

Thanks

Not sure I understand what you're asking. It fits top up or down when in the car for use. It fits top up or top down in the trunk.

Not a fan of the wind screen. Might work nicely, but IMO it looks terrible.

Love the wind deflector, it's an option that actually works and I think it looks unique, Classy. (Just another opinion. ) here are a couple of pics of mine.

Not to go OT, but what did you cover your headrests with, especially that BMW logo on the front?

sorry for the late response, been busy, the antenna is a cheap one from Flea bay about $10-20. Anyway be careful taking off ur original. It can be PITA if you break it and have to drill it out. Performance wise I really don't see any difference though I mostly play my mp3

Ok John, to let you in on my little secret the front headrest logo are really center cap stickers. I just stick them on. Ohh ship this isn't a secret anymore, after the 8,763,987 and a half people read this. Now the rear is just the regular headrest covers I mark it and cut it and a little this and a little that a little trial and error, and some velcro, needle, thread ect. Pow, Biff, Bamm, Boom, thats it.

I dunno.
I used mine for 12 years and always believed that it was a wonderful thing.

This spring I never got around to taking it out of the bag - still hanging in the garage. Ya know? I don't miss it at all, I'm not even going to bother with it.

Is the deflector a case of "The Emperor's new clothes"?

^^^ Sell it to me on the cheap then!

I don't see a big need for the screen myself, but my wife would really appreciate it. The swirling effect in the cabin blows her hair into her face, she has to have all her hair contained really well to not get beat up at anything over 60mph. I think the screen would make her a lot more comfortable at 65-70mph.

No. It absolutely makes a difference in wind buffeting, especially on the freeway.
