SKS or Garand?

I just moved to CA, and gots the itch for a long gun. It seems to fit the bill as to what's legal without completely BUTCHERING a gun just to make it Cali-legal.

Either SKS or Garand - I figure I can save a few pennies with the SKS...and probably get it sooner.

An SKS is significantly less expensive to buy and shoot. On the other hand, a Garand is very expensive and .30-06 ammo ain't cheap. Still, the nostalgia of the Garand and the accuracy of it are definite selling points. I would much rather have a Garand, but I also wouldn't shoot it very much either.

I've got 13 garands, I've shot in competitions with them back in the day. I've even got one hacked in to a "pistol" vietnam chopper pilot side arm style.

I've got 4 sks's 2 consecutive yugos (investment) a russian and a chinese. The chinese was the first rifle I bought myself when I turned 18. I would avoid yugos because of there blocky nature and non chromed bore. The russian and chinese are amung my favorite rifles to shoot.

go with the sks for now, the garands will come later.

Argument settled - SKS type rifles aren't allowed in CA. CMP it is.

Perhaps the confusion is that the models with a grenade launcher are not CA legal, but most vendors will rectify that for you before shipping in-state.

Ive got a yugo sks and its a great gun but you have to be sure to clean the bore really well since its not chromed, but its more accurate than other sks's ive shot.

Plus its always good to have a firearm that shoots 7.62x39, that round is available anywhere in the world, and that round has some good destructive power to it.
