My Ride: 2003 325xi
Service Engine Soon light after air filter

Got the SES light on my 2003 325xi. I had just changed the air filter, with the STP available at Autozone, the day before. Notice it didn't have the extra "pad" on the bottom, like the one I took out, but thought it would be okay for time being, since the other one was pretty dirty.

Came on after about 40 mi of driving the next day. I brought the car back to AZ and they scanned it, and said the error code read that the "pressure was low on both sides" or something to that effect (the guy was having a hard time explaining it, should have gotten him to read it verbatim) and it could be the air filter, etc.

So I checked that out, and did find that one of the clips for the housing was loose, so opened it and reset everything. Driven about 30 mi since, and light is still on.

Will it take time to go off? Should I ask AZ to reset it? Buy a new filter? Or just break down and go to get it checked out at shop?

Reset the light and buy an OEM filter. If you go to Pelican Parts they are like $15.

Autozone or a Peak tool can clear the SES light for you.

Try not to buy parts from autozone for the car. Also get the code and research it online if need be.

The only aftermarket air filter I use is K & N. I've had them in my past 5 cars, never a problem. BTW Autozone can clear the SES light (free).

Just drove another 20 miles (40 total since came on) and the light went off. Yes, still going to pick up another filter.
