Will Phone Charger on Lighter Stay On?

It appears that the cig. lighter continues to provide power after the car is off. I'm concerned that leaving my phone charger plugged in will drain the battery. Does it ever turn off?

Also, is there another power point or solution than keeping your ashtray open and shift lever hitting the adapter every time you pit it in Park?

I've left mine in place for four days without cranking the car. It cranked up just fine afterwards. On top of that, I installed two extra cigarette lighter outlets and a USB charging port in place of my ashtray... still no problems.

As for leaving it in park, I don't know. I have a manual.

the DME shuts down the accesories 15 minutes after shut down to prevent dead batteries(this pertains to reading lamps and such and may not cover the cigarette lighter adapter).

the glove flashlight/storage location can double as outlet.

cigarette lighters on most European vehicles are constant 12v sources.. so it wont turn off until the battery is dead
you can convert it to a switched source, theres a DIY on the forums

Not true, at least these days. My old '2002 MB 230K would turn the cig. lighter off after a few minutes; so does my '2008 335i.

I don't doubt that; my remark was about generalization. European car makers have done away with it on newer platforms (that I am aware of).
