ABS, DSC, Brake Light

Then you obviously don't scan very many cars with abs lights on. From being a tech now to working in bmw parts, we rarely do wheel speed sensors. I don't know why everyone on this site thinks that is the only thing that can go wrong when the abs and brake lights are on. We probably do more abs modules than we do speed sensors.

I've been working on e46's and bmws since 2006 when I first got a job at a euro shop...so this is speaking from experience.

Guess the climate does something to the WSS'es then , water always finds a way into the sensor up here in sweden and the sensor then goes bad.
Or salt/dirt gets onto the impulse wheel.

I am in shop today for the wheel speed sensor? The original sensor is jammed because of the rust. It's been more than an hour they are trying to remove it. Fingers are crossed.

Off topic: yesterday I drove my car on the lift (testing) and the Brake, DSC and ABS lights came on. And when I drove it on the road, all the lights went off after 1 min.

That would be because while on the lift only the rear wheels spin, and the car sees the speed is different between the front and rear wheels.

When my traction lights turn on... I say "thank God!!"

Result: New left rear ABS Speed sensor fixed the problem.

Really? Its strange how for my car (and others on here) taking the sensors out and cleaning the metal filings off of them fixed this exact problem. My lights have not came back on in over six months now. But by all means go to a dealer and spend $100 getting the codes checked first instead of trying something at home that costs an hour of your time. LoL

yea cleaning them cleared it for me its been over 3 months now no more warning lights. It so easy to fix and practically free, so no reason not to try cleaning them first. Then if that doesn't do it, get the codes read and go from there. Free trumps pay every time, except when the person involved does not want to put forth the effort and prefers convenience. Convenience can get expensive real quick, though.

Also it is prob true that most things except a magnet do not affect the sensor. The sensor itself is a pulse generator and so i imagine magnetized filings from the brakes could easily throw it off once enough was accumulated. And the grease and mud might not affect it but it definitely helps those magnetized filings stick to it.

I am perfectly ok with ONLY cleaning them and all three dash lights NOT being on anymore.
BTW do you "take it to a shop first" guys work for a BMW dealer?
These forums I think are for people who want to fix their cars on their own but with a lil help from others.
But hey, call the dealer. I garantee he will also insist you bring the car in EVERY time.

Mine had those metal filings on it. Cleaning them worked great for me.
I'll try a possible fix (thats free) first over taking it to the shop any day.

You sir are an idiot. If you read the thread in my sig do I say anything about taking it to the dealer? I say get the car scanned and diagnose it properly so you aren't wasting time and throwing parts at it. Do you have any idea how many different codes/parts can go wrong with the abs/dsc system? Obviously not. Sorry I've only been working in the auto industry as a tech/advisor/parts for 9 years, 6 of which are BMW so maybe I don't have your level of knowledge. I have helped people on this forum damn near more than anyone else on here and most people will vouch for that so you might want to do your research before you type.
