M54b25 _SMG_

Hi guys. I'm new to this forum but I'm not to the forums in general. In fact I'm a moderator on one Old school Honda forum. Excuse me about rough title, but I have a Q here, I was wandering if anyone did a SMG swap to a M54 engine?
I'm debating here, I'm on a look out after a well kept 323CI, and I have 2, one manual and another Steptronic. Now, the plan is to buy one of those.
I'm a CNC operator by trade so I can make an adapter plate and weld it in place as I'm also a welder. Main Q is, will it be simpler to swap from a manual or Step trany?

Any suggestions will be appresiated. Thanks.

They made a select few 330i's with an SMG tranny (M54B30). So I imagine it'd be possible to bolt one up to any M54 as long as its off one of those cars. The one off the S54B32 is different but could probably work as well with some modification.

I did some research now, So DME and EGS are two different systems, typical germans, we had the same problem with a R129 M119 engine into a W126 SEC chassis. had to be a Bosch systen to make it work.. anyhow, dont blame me for asking.
So S54 is the way to go than.. or maybe S62
