Ticking alternator

I've noticed my alternator ticks when my ignition is in the on position but never really thought about it, I searched and came up empty handed, so my question is, is my alternator going bad or is this normal I'm driving it from CA to AR on Sunday and I really don't want it to take a crap on me on the way there, the alternator was replaced with a new Bosch unit about a year and a half ago...I can't hear the ticking when the engine is running because of all the engine noise, at first I thought it was my ballast from my HIDs but I looked closer and it comes from the alt. Any suggestions??

I have depo headlights with DDM 5k HIDs but I just put around 4k miles on the car and it didn't give me one problem...??? So I'm just not going to worry about it, if it's a bad alt it's gonna give out sooner or later but after a trip like the one I just took with zero problems I don't think it's bad.
