Depends on price, if he's offering a steal on it, then go for it. If he's asking for close to retail then no (might as well buy from a shop and get all the free adjustments that come with)
Bike itself looks to be a good bike for your intended use, if you're a beginner, don't worry much about weight. Just make sure everything works (maybe take it in to a shop to have it checked out first) Last edited by Ghostie; 07-18-2011 at 12:00 PM. |

Retail is like $600-$700 and he is asking for $350 or best offer. I'll try to talk him down. Thanks for the advice, I'll definitely swing it by the local shop if I end up buying it. Other bikes I've been looking at have been the Trek 3700, GT Avalanche 3.0 and Specialized Hardrock. Since this is my first "real" bike that's not from Costco or Walmart I've been scouring Craigslist for any good deals on one.

$350 is "fair"...but $300 would be "awesome" IMO (but hey, I'm a cheapskate)
remember that the $$ can add up pretty quickly IF the bike has been sitting for a while (might need new chain, new cassettes, cables etc) so just be diligent (not deal breakers, but should be factored in to price) Also, most importantly make sure it is your size If that doesn't workout, check out places like bikesdirect.com or performancebike.com for deals on entry level bikes. |

Hey guys I've been looking for something to keep my seats clean for when I get back from biking and I'm covered in mud. I found that wallmart universal seat covers actually do a great job! 20$ and clean seats forever.

Picked up a used 2010 specialized hardrock a few weeks ago. Finally got to ride yesterday on the Fullerton loop. Ate sh!t once and got my knee all banged up. Can't wait to go again!

you know you want to join the mtb/moto club, rohde....
nice bike Snik. I used to have a Jamis a few years back. I believe the Dragon was (is still?) a steel frame, so a lot smoother and more durable than Alu |

yes, steel is real.
i bought the frame from my room mate and sent him loot for the rest and he bought the parts and put it together. he loves doing that sh1t. Iirc, it was a a SLX or SLC component kit. wheel, seats, handlebars, etc, the works. kit was on sale for $800 i think. Forks was from the room mate too, Fox some $300 unit he bought, and later upgraded to their $400 unit so i bought the forks and frame off him. |

Found another pretty reasonable deal locally.. I'm still in search for my first real bike. What do you guys think of the 2011 Trek GF Marlin 29er?
http://www.bikes.org.uk/gary-fisher-...mountain-bike/ ![]() I've read up on first timers on 29ers and they all say its personal preference and to ride around on one to see how it feels. My other choice is a 2009 Fuji Nevada 1.0. http://2009.fujibikes.com/Mountain/H.../Nevada10.aspx I'll be checking these bikes out today and tomorrow, hopefully I'll land one in time for the weekend!

heres my bike
![]() But I got rid of the front brake, single speed, new handle bars, stem, and pedals since I got it a long time ago. Id like to pick up a transition double one of these days but they are kinda pricey for just a frame. Its a decent bike for dirt jumping and messing around through out the city

Yes 29ers are a matter of preference, I've been riding them for a while, but there are tons of people who still prefer the 26 inch wheel (including a few pros) so don't get hung up on either. Just go with the one that feels most comfortable |

My new ride! It's not the Fuji or Trek that I previously mentioned, but I got a pretty sweet deal on this and has been great since I bought it on saturday. So far I've logged a little over 8 miles on light trails and roads on it and I love it!
My first mod (not pictured) was a Cateye Strada CC-RD300W cyclocomputer. Now I'm curious to see what bits I can upgrade to cut down the weight. ![]()

^very nice
For now, just focus on riding as much as you can and don't worry about upgrading anything unless they break (maybe a new saddle IF you find this uncomfortable). You might also need some water bottle cages (assuming you don't have a Camelback) When you're ready, the wheels are usually the best (and most expensive) components to shave weight. Hope you got a helmet |
