i saw it the other day, cool watch, but i thought to myself... going to cartier to buy a high end proprietary movement watch is like going to to dolce and gabbana to buy shoes...
imho, leave the watches to watch people like omega, rolex, iwc etc and leave the shoes to shoes people like allen edmonds and edward green

Cartier is getting good at watchmaking, the problem is that people mindset cant change about its brand image.

i mean... if i wanted to buy a wedding ring i'd go to tiffanys... if i wanted to buy a car, i'd go to BMW or Porsche... if i wanted a watch i'd go to rolex or omega.
those are proven brands with serious heritage within their own trade...

if i wanted womens jewelry i'd go to cartier, no doubt.

but dont get me wrong, my grandfather has the cartier ballon bleu i got several months ago, so i am being very objective here. for a lower end watch like the ballon bleu, any brand can do - the movement is all the same.

For some people this whole thing works in reverse to Cartier's advantage though.... for example my father-in-law (who knows nothing about watches) thinks his Cartier roadster is the epitome of watchmaking and often reacts to seeing what I am wearing (Breitling, Omega, Panerai, B&R) with a comment like "Someday if you save up you can get a real luxury watch.... I have never heard of your ___ (fill in blank). Cartier is real quality... who would pay so much for a plain watch like that? (referring to PAM)"

From Cartier's viewpoint they are probably happy about appealing to the masses rather than getting "props" from WIS.

cartier doesnt appeal to WIS at all

This whole Cartier mindset is reminding me of Mont Blanc and their very recent change to in-house movements.

Speaking of Patek, I acquired a vintage one recently that dates back to the 30s. It is actually in Geneva for a full restoration. When I asked how long it'll take, the guy over at Henri Stern NYC told me "umm.. less than a year" lol...

their nicolas rieussec is a sick watch, but for mont blanc... i buy pens from them, not watches though?

I recently attended a watch fair, and the guy at the MB booth was presenting MB's new in-house movement and how they are now switching over from stock ETA to their own, to which I was pretty impressed. They still have a long way to go, but they seem to be on the right track

if its a well-made watch that fits the specifications you want, BUY IT regardless of brand. judging by your last posts, id probably punch you in the face IRL
