So does that mean you are now using a MAP sensor on a stock DME or are you still using a MAF?

This system still uses a MAF sensor. No need to switch to MAP.

Ah ok. I will be shocked if this project doesn't get a piggback or aftermarket ECU soon. From my experience you will get to a point where you will scrap the whole idea. It will work on low boost levels but turn it up it won't. Half throttle situations will have issues with boost trying to pour in and not being able to compensate with fuel at those times. Hopefully you don't waste too much time on it. Would of been nice if these DME's had a MAP sensor and all these issues would be avoided

What makes you say this? We recently finished a built motor E36 running 20+psi that just made 670whp on the stock ecu and a MAF.

Our stage 2 plans include forged internals, intake manifold, and more boost, however we will still be running a MAF.

I guarantee you this project won't be getting a piggyback ECU whatsoever. It will run solely on the factory reprogrammed ECU. Heck, it ALREADY IS running on the factory ECU It was driven from NJ down to FL, with the turbo kit installed and functioning, using the factory ECU.

From my experience you will get to a point where you will scrap the whole idea. It will work on low boost levels but turn it up it won't. No offense, but your experience doesn't equate to my experience. I have been tuning turbocharged BMW's using the factory ECU and blow-through MAF system for nearly a decade. I understand how these systems work, as well as what it takes to make them work in a forced induction configuration.

Your description of the issues you ran into indicates a lack of this knowledge. As such, I understand why you're so skeptical about it. So just hang on a little longer until everything is done and released. You'll then see that with the proper software tuning, this project IS possible

And for the record, running a MAP sensor vs a MAF sensor wouldn't have solved the fueling issues you experienced. But that is a discussion for another thread

Yep your right. You would have heaps more experience than me. And it would be interesting to see if this car stays this way with more boost.

I don't see how you don't think a MAP sensor wouldn't solve fueling issues though. Even GTR's with multiple throttles have the same issue. That's why everyone tunes these TPS vs RPM off boost and switch to MAP vs RPM as boost comes on. Mine works beautiful like that now as well.

August update?

for an update before i spend a lot of money on a kit from somewhere else!!!!!!!!

We were trying to get the car to Bimmerfest East, however I believe the Comp Oil-less turbo had a bearing failure this weekend. We will have another setup up and running as soon as possible, however I am shipping the car back to NJ to complete the work.

I totaled a e36M running 12psi. ive since purchased another M3. this time im doing an engine rebuild, and swapping my turbo over, and there will be some slight modifications to the kit this time. Sorry for the off-topic post, but i couldnt pm you. i noticed above yall were running 20psi. is there anyway you can send me the specs or a link on that build plus some pics. im interested in what/how you built that car. im previous customer as well, so thx again
