Exclamation Rear drivers side window........

OK, so I searched through the forums for this and found noting like it, My rear window is giving me issues, It will go down but when it tries to go back up it doesnt move and makes a sound like gears going through sand or something. I took the door panel off and moved the window back up. But didn't get to take a look at it yet on the inside, seeing this happened at 10:30pm. I need to fix this asap and need to know if it's just the regulator or something else. She's parked in a unsecure parking area and I don't really trust my neighbors, Please let me know any helpful info asap. Thank you.

Sorry to hear you are having problems with your window. I too am having issues with my window regulator (that is what the problem is). This is not the first time for me, it is my 3rd, I drive an '02 325i. For some reason it is very common in out cars. Use this link: http://www.theeurodepot.com/quick_se...ulator&x=0&y=0

or search other websites, but this will answer the mail for sure. They are pretty easy to replace, just need patience. The gears grinding is a tell-tale sign of them going out. In the mean time, push your window all the way up, you might need to toy with the window switch to release some of the cable, then once you have it all the way up shove a CD or two in between the window and the window guard (on the inside of the car) to keep the window up.

What ever you do, don't use tape on the window, inside or out. It is a BMW for crying out loud, they are not meant to look ghetto-fabulous.

I hope this helps.

Thank you, for your help. I got the window back up, I put a couple of hardwood floor " gappers" in there to keep it up for now. Happen to know the going rate for a new regulator? I looked at a couple local stores and they seem to be about $80. Just seems a little high. I've heard that they were less. The DIY looks pretty simple.

Definitely the regulator. I bought mine off of eBay for around $50. Easy to install with all the DIYs on here.
I had the stealership asking for ~$500 to fix it. One of them I was able to fix with a zip-tie. But when it is grinding like that just replace it.

After I checked out those sites and punched myself in the nuts for not have a garage to park in and having to spend more then what was needed. I went down and replaced the old regulator. Apparently the cable snapped on the top half and gOT caught around the pulley in the middle. I have a pic but my phone won't let me share it. That's a easy DIY, I watched the vid on here. Made it easy. Thanks for the help everyone. Now back to the original DIY of the week, brakes and rotors.
